Eight players were invited to participate, including two very strong masters: Aron Nimzowitsch from Denmark, and Akiba Rubinstein from Poland. They met with six German chess masters that included Jacques Mieses, Friedrich Sämisch, Oscar Antze, Hans Duhm, Hermann Von Gottschall, and Walther Von Holzhausen. Games were played from August 9th to the 18th. Nimzowitsch won with a near perfect score of 6½ of 7, edging out Rubinstein by half a point. The prizes were awarded to the players at the Hotel Luisenhof. Initially Deutschen Schachblatter was published in the Riemann Hofbuchhandlung and was edited by Paul Lipke, Siegbert Tarrasch, Hans Appunn and Franz Sackmann published as semi-monthly magazines. It was published continuously until the out break of World war II and ceased publication in 1941. After the war it resumed its publication in 1948 and continued until 1952.Condition:Some age toning to pages, some edge wear, corners, some soiling to wrappers, number four tear at back wrapper with small piece missing, bumped else a very good set.

The field was noticeably strengthened by the participation of Efim Bogoljubov, who had returned to Germany after a two years stay in Russia, and also Rudolf Spielmann. The favorite Bogoljubov won in the end, despite a bad start with a loss to Ernst Gruenfeld in round 2. Spielmann disappointed a little. The tournament was sponsored by Viktor Tietz. Georg Kieninger was clear third with 5 1/2 points. Tied for fourth and fifth were Erich Eliskases and Herbert Heinicke both with 5 points. Josef Lokvenc and Alexander Petrov were half point behind and shared sixth and seventh. Clear eighth was Friedrich Sämisch with a score of 4.
