About This Item

Aspen, CO: Meat Possum Press Ltd, 1970. First edition. Signed by artist Thomas W. Benton in pencil along bottom margin of poster front wrap. 4 pp. Each page measures 22″ x 14″. Very Good+ with faint vertical crease about an inch from the left edge of the front panel running throughout all pages, another light crease along upper corner, light wear. Bright, in nice shape overall.

A striking poster created for gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson for his 1970 run for Pitkin County sheriff in Colorado under the banner of "freakpower." The only one of the series that fold out to be a tabloid-style paper written by Thompson. Illustrated internally from photographs including the reprint of the controversial "Jilly" nude from Evergreen Review, plus ads. Rare signed by the artist.
