Finely illustrated with Twenty Eight engravings, some full page, by Mahoney in Oliver Twist, Thirty four by Barnard in Sketches by Boz. Attractive early leather binding of half black calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt floral design. Compartments ruled in gilt and decorated with blind stamped chain borders and floral centre tool. Red and olive morocco labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Tan endpapers. Some offsetting to both free endpapers, probably a reaction to the glue used in the paste-downs. All edges speckled. Some minor rubbing to extremities but overall this is a lovely copy in a fine Victorian binding.

Lion and Unicorn Press. London. 1964. LIMITED EDITION. Folio. (13.7 x 9.8 inches). One of only 400 copies, this number 368. Inscribed by Colin Hayes on the half title page and with a catalogue of his exhibition at the Royal Academy in 2000, plus the order of service from his funeral at Mortlake Crematorium in 2003. Illustrated with 60 fine full page plates. Very good copy in publishers illustrated grey cloth covered boards reproducing pencil drawings by Spencer. White cloth spine lettered in grey. A little rubbing to the extremities of the binding and a single previous owner name on the front pastedown endpaper, but overall a very good copy of this interesting book reproducing sixty drawings produced by Spencer between 1939 and 1949 and housed in four large sketchbooks, larger than reproduced here. The original scrapbook pages measured 16 x 10.9 inches.

Printed by J. Catnach, 2, Monmouth Court, 7 Dials. London. - No date. Circa 1830. (3.4 x 2.4 inches). 32pp. Sewn into plain yellow paper wraps. Illustrated with ten wood engraved vignettes and decorative head piece on the first page, plus one leaf with four lines of music, for voice and violin, for the song The Southern Breezes. Page edges a bit creased and rubbed and a small stain to the rear blank wrap, but overall a very good copy. Contains a short anti slavery verse, simply entitled The Slave. --- Rare. No copies listed on Worldcat or Copac. "One class of literature which Jemmy Catnach made â by reason of greater mechanical skill and a larger capital than his rivals â almost his own, was children's farthing, halfpenny, and penny books." - The history of the Catnach press by Charles Hindley. 1886. Catnach was publishing at this address between c. 1813 and his retirement in 1838.

Westminster Gazette. London. 1894. FIRST EDITION, first issue. 8vo. (7.2 x 5.6 inches). Four full page mono plates and front cover illustration by Rackham. This first issue (published July 1894) has "Dolly" as the running headline on the text pages and "price one shilling" at the extreme lower right corner of the front wrapper; subsequent issues have "The Dolly Dialogues" as the running headline and the price is higher up the page. Original pale yellow pictorial wrappers, with dark blue lettering and illustration toned in lighter blue. Some wear and soiling to wrappers, especially on spine, which has had some professional repair work. A few spots of foxing to the page edges but generally a clean copy throughout. Neat armorial bookplate on inside front cover and there is another loosely inserted Rackham-esque bookplate. Blackie and Son, Limited. London. - No date. Circa 1910. REPRINT of 1903 edition, with 5 extra full colour plates. Large 8vo. (10 x 7.7 inches). Illustrated with 16 full page colour plates, 6 full colour and 10 printed in orange, black and grey, plus several hundred fine line drawings, many within the text and a few printed in red and black. A very good copy in publishers paper covered boards with colour illustration mounted to front cover within a printed border, below black lettering. Grey cloth spine with lettering and decoration in black. Some rubbing to the corners and a little fraying to the cloth but overall a very good copy of this beautifully illustrated book.

(4.6 x 3.6 inches). 8pp, plus publishers green wraps, printed in black to the front panel with title, publisher and woodcut illustration. Unsewn but with the later addition of a pin to keep it all together. Each page with one or two, a total of ten, woodcuts and text printed below. A few creases to the page edges but overall a very good example of this rare edition. ---- No copy of this edition listed on Worldcat or Copac. ---- Fairburn was located at this address from 1820 to 1842.- P.A.H. Signed by Stone in black ink on the title page. Also there are 8 pieces of his printed work, one inscribed by Stone on the back, loosely inserted; Prospectus for The Old rectory suite of engravings, Bookplate for David Potter, vignette view with 'keepsake from Reynolds Stone' motif below, Waterfall view on single sheet, Bookplate for Iain Bain, Prospectus for Boxwood suite of engravings, Artist in the woods illustration on single sheet, and A child in the woods illustration printed onto card and inscribed by Stone on the rear 'Dear Norah. Illustrated with 19 half-tone photographic plates, including six pages reproducing Watson's letter to Max Delbruck, telling of the Double Helix, and 11 diagrams within the text. A very good copy with previous owner's name and date (May 1968) written neatly on the front free endpaper. Original dustwrapper with some minor chipping to the corners and edges. A slight forward lean to the book but overall a very good copy.

Yellow coated endpapers. Inner hinges cracking. Some gatherings still unopened. Spine a bit rubbed and with some chipping to the cloth at the top and bottom of the spine but still overall a near to very good copy. Scarce in original cloth.
