Longmans, Green and Co. London. 1889 to 1910. FIRST EDITIONS, first impressions. 12 volumes. 8vo. (7.3 x 5.1 inches). All volumes are fully illustrated with a total in the whole set of 46 full page colour plates (all appear in the last six volumes), and hundreds of mono illustrations, both full page and smaller vignettes, mostly by Ford but some illustrations in the first two volumes by G. P. Jacomb-Hood and Lancelot Speed. Publishers elaborately decorated multi colour cloth bindings with gilt illustrations to the front boards and spines, which are also lettered in gilt. Three volumes (Crimson, Brown and Olive) with decorative illustrated endpapers. Two of the volumes with plain white and five with black coated endpapers, all original as issued. The Blue and Red books have been professionally re-cased and have new endpapers. All edges gilt. Neat previous owner name, date the year of publication, to the blank free endpaper of the Red fairy book. Some occasional minor marks and spots to a few pages in some of the volumes but overall this is a very good, bright and clean set throughout. The bindings to the first two volumes, which have been re-cased, show some wear and minor chipping to the extremities, particularly the top of the spine of the Blue Fairy book, the other volumes generally in very good condition.
