Folio, six volumes bound in full buckram with gilt titles to the spine, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, illustrated with 500 plates including 300 chromolithographic plates in color decorated with gold and silver and 200 in monochrome. In near fine condition. One of the most complete and extensive studies of on the history of clothing ever produced, Auguste Racinet's monumental Le Costume Historique remains an important publication in the history of French printing, particularly for its use of chromolithography which granted its plates with a unique and lasting brilliance.
