With a new introduction by the author. Illustrated with oil paintings by Joseph Mugnaini, a four color lithograph frontispiece and three pullout triptychs, the lithograph from zinc plates on the illustrations drawn by Mugnaini. Book printed by letterpress on a Heidelberg press by Lawton Kennedy, San Francisco on acid-free paper. Limited edition, copy 1267 of 2000 signed by Bradbury and Mugnaini. The heavy aluminum foil cover can resist heat of 451 degrees, the temperature at which paper catches fire. Laid-in the LEC Monthly Letter. NEWMAN & WICHE 527. LEC small insert read "Fragile This Book is Bound in Aluminum Sensitive to the touch." Our copy is pristine, the only fault is slight rubbing to slipcase at head and foot.

Synopsis

Fahrenheit 451 (Ballantine Books, 1953) by Ray Bradbury is a dystopian novel that presents a future American society in which the masses are hedonistic and critical thought through reading is outlawed. Written in the early years of the Cold War, the novel is a critique of what Bradbury saw as issues in American society of the era. Bradbury combined two of his early short stories, "The Pedestrian" and  "Bright Phoenix," into The Fireman, a novella published in the February 1951 issue of Galaxy Science Fiction. Bradbury's publisher at Ballantine Books then suggested that he expand the work to make into a novel—Fahrenheit 451.
