Description:
London: Cassell & Company, 1935. First Edition. First edition of Lawrence Durrell's first novel. Highly autobiographical in character, an apprentice effort, Durrell's novel sank largely without trace. And as with so many unsold titles, the majority of copies were destroyed during the Blitz. Blue boards with the barest hint of rubbing to edges; no dustjacket, spine incorrectly lettered Pied Pipers of Lovers, bookseller's price on front free endpaper, slight spotting to fore and top-edges, otherwise a clean, solid, well-preserved copy of Lawrence's exceedingly scarce first novel.

Boston: George W. Briggs & Co, 1855. Hard Cover. Louisa May Alcott -- 1st Edition 1st Printing -- VERY GOOD/NONE -- copy of Flower Fables. 8vo. 182 pp. Bound in the publisher's original blue cloth, with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine, a small gilt scene stamped on the front board, and profuse decoration in blind on both boards. Illustrated throughout with a frontispiece and five other plates (all present and intact). The cloth is gently rubbed, the spine ends and corners of the boards are a bit bumped and worn, and there is a small open tear in the rear free endpaper; a contemporary inscription is inked on the front free endpaper, the front board is a little soiled at the bottom, and there is occasional, minimal foxing and soiling throughout. Hinges are strong, text is tight throughout. Alcott initially wrote these stories and poems when she was only 16 for Ralph Waldo Emerson's daughter. Several years later, she published the collection to help ease the family's financial troubles. An exceptionally solid copy of Alcott's first book, of which only 1600 copies were printed. (BAL 142) Published by: Boston: George W. Briggs & Co., 1855 First edition.

Description:
v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
