VENETIIS: PER ALEXANDRUM DE BINDONIS, 1521. Rara edizione latina del 1521 della celebre opera spirituale del Frate Domenicano Predicatore Giacomo Savonarola (Ferrara 1452- Firenze 1498). Savonarola venne scomunicato da Papa Alessandro VI nel 1497 e bruciato sul rogo come "eretico scismatico per aver predicato cose nuove". Tutte le sue opere vennero inserite all'indice dei libri proibiti nel 1559 per essere riabilitate solo in seguito e sono ora considerati importanti testi di teologia. Savonarola scrisse "Triumphus Crucis de fidei veritate", il suo capolavoro spirituale, durante il periodo della sua scomunica. E' essenzialmente la celebrazione della vittoria della Croce sul peccato e la morte e l'esplorazione di quello che significa essere un Cristiano. Bellissima incisione su legno al frontespizio che mostra Savonarola nell'atto di scrivere all'interno del suo eremo. Di fronte a lui un crocifisso, una clessidra a fianco e molti libri. La stessa illustrazione venne utilizzata per altre edizioni veneziane dello scritto ed è considerata una delle migliori incisioni antiche di una biblioteca.<BR><BR>Registro in fine che indica come data di stampa 14 novembre 1521. Al verso marca tipografica: donna coronata seduto in trono tra due leoni con spada e bilancia. In alto biscia e pera. In basso iniziali AB (Alessandro Bindoni). Numerazione singola. Peso Kg. 0,243. Very rare Latin edition of 1521 dof the famous spiritual work by the Dominican Friar Preecher Giacomo Savonarola (Ferrara 1452- Firenze 1498). Savonarola was excommunicated in 1497 by the Pope Alessandro VI and burned as an heretics "eretico scismatico per aver predicato cose nuove". All this works were put in the Index of Forbidden Books in 1559 to be requalified only after and are now considered important texts of theology. Under the stress of excommunication, Savonarola composed the present work, his most famous and influential, his spiritual masterpiece, essentially a celebration of the victory of the Cross over sin and death and an exploration of what it means to be a Christian The title woodcut shows Savonarola writing in his hermitage, a crucifix in front of him, an hourglass on a side desk and a number of books. This woodcut can also be found in other Venetian prints of his writings and is one of the most beautiful library representations of the woodcut era. The printer's signature at the end shows Justitia enthroned on a lion bench with sword and scales and the initials "AB" for Alexander de Bindoni. Single numbering. In good conditions.
