In the illustrated price-clipped dust jacket, with darkening to the spine, and several closed and open tears to the edges. The most prominent tear is closed, measuring 2 1/2" deep. With 28 black-and-white drawings by Francis Lee Jaques. A first edition of the author's second book. "The book has prose that is close to poetry. This is the original printing, later reprinted by the University of Minnesota Press. Book has been well read and is in very good - condition with wear to the cover image along the edge and reading crease to front cover, corners bumped and shelf wear. Reissue of this illustrated visitor's guide to the magisterial Age of Reptiles mural in the Great Hall of Yale's Peabody Museum, written by John Ostrom, one of the most important palaeontologists of the 20th century. Originally published in 1966 in the same pamphlet form. A beautiful copy in unusually nice condition.
