George Cattermole and Hablot Browne. 295pp plus 52pp of Captain M'Clintock's "A Narrative of the Discovery of the Fate of Sir John Franklin and His Companions" bound together at end. Brown embossed boards, gilt spine lettering. Spine ends and corners chipped, spine slighty dulled, partial cracking to inner front hinge, tanning and scattered foxing throughout, owner's name and address on title page, extensive pencil notes on rear endpapers. The binding of this volume is tight. Illustrated.

Philadelphia: J.T. Lloyd & Co, 1857. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 267p; 5p advertisements in back. A tan cloth hardcover book that has been recased with new endpapers. Restoration work to spine ends. Cloth soiled and edgeworn. Early owner's signature inside. Lots of small stains and foxing throughout. Small closed tears on side edge of page 5-6. Otherwise, text still quite legible and binding secure. Good condition overall. John Franklin (1786-1847) was a Royal Navy officer whose ship became icebound during an attempt to travel through the Northwest Passage. Complete with 15 black and white plates.
