About This Item

Prague: Tiskem A Nakladem Noviny, 1944. First edition. First edition. Unpaginated. Bound in publisher's boards with black cloth backstrip. About Very Good with tear and fraying to a spot on the spine, boards slightly bowed, former owner's stamp on a few pages.

A wordless graphic novel about the life of Jesus with an introduction in Czech. It was issued during the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, when literature was tightly censored by the Germans. The Moravian artist, Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichová (1894-1980), has been called the first female graphic novelist. Uncommon, only five copies found in a recent OCLC WorldCat search.
