Hodder and Stoughton. London. No date. 1913. FIST EDITION. 4to. (10 x 7.7 inches). Beautifully illustrated with 18 tipped in colour plates, each mounted on the page within a printed decorative border and title. Tissue guard on the frontispiece. Illustrated endpapers. Neat gift inscription, dated Xmas 1913, on the front blank endpaper. Text pages with some foxing, mostly to the margins, which is heavier to the first and last pages. Publishers cream coloured cloth binding with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine and front board, which also has an oval colour plate mounted within a decorative gilt border. Top edge gilt. There is a stain to the top front outer corner of the front board and some minor fraying to the extremities but overall a very good copy of this uncommon and attractive book. -- Worldcat gives a speculative publication date of 1914, but the inscription on this copy would suggest it was issued for the 1913 Christmas market.
