Memphis, Tennessee: Castle Books, 1988. Very rare signed, numbered title. Numbered, inscribed and signed by author on fep. The frontispiece, a drawing of the author's wife, is also signed by her. One of the American Heroes series. 8vo size blue clothbound hardcover with dust jacket; 445 bright, white pages with some black and white photographs and black and white frontispiece drawing From jacket: "(This book) captures the joy of the victor and the survivor as well as the long shadow of fear and tension on the eve of battle, and the shattering fear in the midst of combat. Here is the lingering sorrow of comrades who do not return from the battle, the loneliness and the boredom between mission, nights filled with excitement mixed with dread, days filled with both laughter and fear... Here is the movie star, Jimmy Stewart, dedicated to the welfare of his men and determined to fly the most dangerous aerial missions with them." Jacket is a bit tattered at head and heel of spine with some chipping and small tears, and at top back with some chips and small tears; it's worn at inside folds and has some minor chipping at edges. There is a tiny tear in the margin and some creasing to inside jacket flap. There is a stain on the bottom of the book decreasing in size from back to front and on the bottom of the inside flap on the back of the dust jacket. There are two taped repairs to the bottom back of dust jacket. The fep and frontispiece are lightly creased at bottom corner. . Signed by Author. Numbered. Cloth. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
