About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1933. First edition of this work by the Irish dramatist and memoirist. Octavo, original cloth. In very good condition. Darkly allegorical, O'Casey's Within the Gates is set within the gates of a busy city park based on London's Hyde Park. O'Casey originally imagined that the heavily stylized play would become the basis for an Alfred Hitchcock film, but it swiftly proved to be a box office failure.
