About This Item

[Boston?, 1826. 27, [1 blank] pp, untrimmed. Original printed wrappers [scattered spotting], disbound [inner margin wear]. Light foxing, light dampstain running through top blank margin. Ownership signature of "James G. Carter, Esq." at foot of front wrapper. Good+.

Pickering emphasizes the importance of the uniformity of grammars and other elementary books of instruction. This pamphlet originally appeared as an article in the American Journal of Education in 1825. That Journal gives the 1826 publication date for this separate printing, and states that "it is gratifying to find that the leading subject of that article excites such an interest as to call for its publication in a separate form." [THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF EDUCATION FOR THE YEAR 1826, VOL. I. Boston: 1826. Pages 496-502.]
James G[ordon] Carter, Esq. [1795-1849], the early owner of this pamphlet, was a Massachusetts legislator and educator who dedicated his life to reforming the education system.
OCLC 47703004 [3] [as of July 2013]. AI 25771 [1-MH].
