Limited ot 925 copies. ________ The preface is by John Ruskin. Mosher never clearly identified from which edition he reprinted: the British or the American edition of 1883. Since copyright problems were most likely avoidable by reprinting the British edition, it most likely was the G. Allen edition (Sunnyside, Orpington, Kent, 1883). ________ The portrait frontispiece is by the author, Francesca Alexander, the American artist who spent much of her life in Italy, befriended John Ruskin, and published much of her work in the 1880's and 90's. American illustrator and author Esther Francesca "Fanny" Alexander (1837-1917) became a confidant of John Ruskin while she was living in Florence in 1882. The fact that he edited this book so quickly after their first introduction, speaks of his high regard for her abilities. He shortly thereafter purchased the 122 drawings that she had prepared for Roadside Songs of Tuscany.
