Fine condition.Professeur au Jardin du roi, puis directeur du Muséum, Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu (1748-1836) est issu d’une lignée de cinq naturalistes lyonnais et parisiens. Célèbre pour son approche systématique, il publie un ouvrage majeur en 1789 : Genera plantarum. Jussieu propose au monde savant une classification botanique, fruit de dix-sept années de recherches familiales. Dans ce recueil, il distribue les quelque 20 000 plantes alors connues en 1 754 genres, selon le principe d’une hiérarchie de caractères qui organise le système des végétaux. Sa méthode dite « naturelle » s’oppose au système de Linné, appuyé sur la description visible. C’est un ordre nouveau, qui inspire Cuvier et Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire pour le règne animal.
