Previous owner's gift inscription present to the FFEP with institutional stamp present to the reverse of the front board. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards lightly rubbed and worn. The illustrations by Harlem Renaissance author Effie Lee Newsome (1885-1979) a. K. A. Mary Effie Lee are bright and attractive. Effie Lee Newsome (1885–1979) , born Mary Effie Lee in Philadelphia, was a Harlem Renaissance writer. She mostly wrote children's poems, and was the first famous African-American poet whose work was mostly in this area.
