Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean.

Photoplay edition issued to coincide with the British release of the classic MGM film starring Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper as the worn out prize fighter and his loving son. Very good in a dust jacket with small internal repairs. The panel has a photograph of Beery and holding a somewhat limp Cooper in his arm against a bright white background with read lettering. Very scarce photoplay.

London: The Reader’s Library, n.d. [1931]. First English Photoplay Edition. An editor’s preface describes and praises the MGM film. Pages a little yellowed as usual, else very good in dust jacket. The jacket illustration is a scene from the film with Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper.

A lightly handled copy with some fading to the cloth at the outer edges and spine and with some faint spotting to the spine, with some minor edge wear and a few tiny tears to the cloth without dust jacket. Scarce photoplay. The film won Oscars for Best Actor (Beery) and Best Writing (Frances Marion) and was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director (King Vidor).

True first edition, novelized by Drago from the Frances Marion screenplay for the 1931 King Vidor-directed film featuring Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper. A cinema classic, both Beery (Best Actor) and Marion (Best Writing, Original Story) won Academy Awards, and both Vidor and the film were nominated.
