Volumes 2 and 4 of a 4 volume set. 355 pp. in V. 2; 364 pp. in V. 4. All letters start out "dear boy"., exemplifying a classic portrait of an ideal 18th century gentleman.

Covers are sound on the other volumes but with cracking on hinges, and some of the leather worn and and small sections of top layer of leather rubbed off around edges of spines etc. A few very old ink marks on one page (very minor). New York: Re-printed by J. Rivington and H. Gaine, 1775. Leather Bound. Poor. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 12mo. 216 pages. Hardcover bound in early full leather with raised bands on the spine. The binding is quite worn. The foot of the spine is chipped, and the leather label on the spine is missing. The rear hinge is cracking with the split running up about three inches from the foot (although the cords are still holding). The boards are splayed (bowed outwards at the fore edges). Lacks much of the front pastedown, and the rear pastedown has lifted up. The front flyleaf has some early notations as well as a 1911 gift inscription. The first and terminal leaves of the text block are rough at the fore edges, but we see no loss of text and no big chips. The text block is generally sound, and the text is toned and foxed. LACKS SOME TEXT. We're not sure how many pages should be in this volume but the text ends on page 216, and the last line is in the middle of a sentence.… Read More
