Bound retaining the original wrappers. Les dieux ont soif (The Gods Are Athirst, 1912), a novel set in Paris during the French Revolution. "His early prose productions... reveal not only a tendency to lean heavily on the Classics but also, more important, his attempt to use this learning as a weapon against all dogmatic ideas in both religious and secular domains. His early philosophy of skepticism, punctuated by irony and by strong doses of sensualism, is tempered, however, by pity for the human condition and its inconsistencies." (Braun.
