Description:
London: William Heinemann, 1923. Later printing. Hardcover. Good +. Octavo, 312pp. Sixth impression of the first edition of the Constance Garnett translation. The "Other Stories" mentioned in the title are two excellent novellas by Dostoevsky, "Poor People" (often translated as "Poor Folk") and "The Landlady." A good or slightly better copy in the publisher's red cloth. Cloth somewhat soiled, spine dulled, and some gentle foxing to prelims; else a clean, sound copy. Seemingly one of the scarcest of these Garnett translation in early printings. Uncommon.

Description:
New York: Macmillan, 1920. Octavo, 12 volumes, bound in the publisher's bluish-grey cloth. Editions vary, though most are first American printings of the Constance Garnett translations (exceptions are The Brothers Karamozov, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, and The Possessed, though these are all early printings.) A married set, with various owner's names on some volumes, and the spine panels toned or dust-soiled to varying degrees. Generally in very good condition, with some notable exceptions. The set was issued serially (i. e. not all at once), as Garnett worked tirelessly to translated these heavy tomes directly from the original Russian, so it is not uncommon for sets to have been cobbled together in this fashion. With all faults, still a pleasing set; difficult to find complete, and expensive to compile. Our listing images are meant to show the worst condition problems, and you can presume that overall condition is otherwise better than what is pictured.
