Gift inscription dated 1971 on the half title. Each song is surrounded by lush illustrations by Paul Hey. Hey was known for his poetic, realistic graphics, mainly using painting techniques for fairy tales and folk songs, including Sang und Klang für Kinderherz. He was commissioned to illustrate a new edition of Anderson's Fairy tales in 1940, which also won acclaim.
