New Edition, 1843; deckle edges; 574 p., plus catalog of 32 p., mostly clean--small stains on p. 135 bled through to surrounding pages, ever more faint; strong paper mildly age-toned but foxed in places; a tiny amount of insect damage at lower edges of front end pages; not ex-lib., no former owner's signature; volume square though binding a bit tender; dark blue boards rubbed and stained and corners bumped--small open tear at foot of spine ; paper label with title on spine is wearing away at edges.

A very good copy. A disciple of David Ricardo, McCulloch has been described as the "first professional economist" (ODNB) for his large body of writing on the subject. The origins of this work lie in his entry on political economy for the 1822 edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, much praised by Ricardo and expanded into the first edition published in 1825. This revised and further extended edition appeared five years later with three subsequent editions appearing thereafter.
