EARLY REPRINT 1815 (first published in 1807), miniature book, approximately 67 x 60 mm, 2½ x 2¼ inches (cover size), original publisher's dark pink boards with black border and sunburst to covers, "The Bible" in centre on upper cover, title and black rules to spine, expertly rebacked with a vertical strip (about 75%) of the original back strip laid on including the title, 96 pages including title page, engraved frontispiece and 47 very good engravings designed by Alfred Mills. Expertly restitched with new endpapers, binding slightly rubbed, small very pale stain below image on plate page 4 (see image), tiny crease to some corners, tiny closed tear to top margin of page 59, tiny pale stain to top margin of page 75, otherwise a very good clean sturdy copy. New London, CT: Wm. Bolles & Co, 1850. Hardcover. Miniature (2" X 1.75"). Full calf, gilt spine lettering. 192pp. Frontispiece woodcut, woodcut illustrations. Very good. Mild bit of edgewear; some slightly irregular and closely trimmed pages. Tight, lovely copy of this American Tom Thumb Bible, a popular category of miniature book in the early 19th century. This is a later printing of the edition that W. & J. Bolles first brought out around 1831. The woodcut illustrations are charmingly primitive. Original leather binding is in exceptionally sharp, handsome condition, with spine lettering bright.

1823. (MINIATURE BOOK). HISTORY OF THE BIBLE. Troy [NY]: Printed & Published by W. & J. Disturnell, 1823. 2" by 1 1/4" (5x3.2 cm). brown leather with 'Bible' and modest decoration gilt-stamped to spine. Contemporary ink inscription on front pastedown and a birth notice on rear pastedown. Binding is lightly rubbed at edges, with some offset staining to lower board. Text is clean; and although it is trimmed close on a few pages, it is unaffected and complete. (Adomeit A51).
