Title continues: "and the Subversion of the Government of England, and the Protestant Religion: Who upon Full Evidence was found Guilty of High Treason, And received Sentence accordingly, on Thursday November the 28th 1678." Edward Coleman (1636-78) was a Catholic courtier under Charles II, placed on trial for treason after being implicated by Titus Oates in the Popish Plot. The trial took place under Lord Chief Justice William Scroggs. This was the first major trial of the Popish Plot, which led to the execution of Coleman and many others.
