Pages and plates are lightly tanned and foxed throughout. Occasional thumb-marking present. Binding is shaky. Boards have heavy edge wear with bumping to corners and rub wear all over. Soft crushing to spine ends. Leather peeling to spine and corners, with noticeable scuffing and scratches overall. Price sticker to front board. Book is notably forward leaning.

Written by General Sir William Francis Patrick Napier, a British soldier in the British Army and a military historian. Napier's History of the War in the Peninsula was a tremendously influential, if controversial, work. Napier had been actively involved in the campaigns, turning to history in peacetime, in part to refute Southey's account of Sir John Moore. Because of his obvious lack of impartiality, modern military historians treat the work with caution, but it remains widely read.
