California: The Arthur H. Clark Company, 1964. Hardcover.. First Edition. 356 pp. Octavo. No dust-jacket. Red cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Fore and bottom edges deckled, top edge trimmed and brown. Some pages uncut. Half-title included. 6 appendices, a bibliography and an index included. 7 B/W illustrations on 5 plates and 2 folding maps (one coloured and the other B/W). Internally unmarked. Cloth undamaged and unmarked. A tight, very good condition first edition copy of this 1964 novel. George Drouillard is perhaps most notable for his prominent role in ensuring the success of the Lewis and Clark expedition, after which he would become the fur-trading partner of Manual Lisa and established several forts in the Missouri Basin. Drouillard trapped with John Colter and other notable fur-trappers throughout Yellowstone, a region in which he would, in 1810, be killed by Blackfeet individuals.
