Preface by Leland Stanford, who hired the now famous photographer, known for his California landscapes, to prove whether or not all four hooves of a horse are at some point in the air while trotting. A seminal book in the history of photography & also equine studies. Some wear to extremities; some peeling of cloth at two spine corners; rubbing on back cover (long line & spots); some tissue guards with some creases; some slight pulls/short tears at binding on some leaves; three leaves with some burning from laid in newspaper clippings; front hinge separation after preliminary blank page has been archivally closed. Overall a good copy. Very scarce & desirable.
