Very good+ in red paper covered boards with black text on the spine and a black and red title block on the front board. A small octavo of 8 by 5 3/8 inches with two very short closed tears to the ends of the spine; a notation in ink on the front paste down and a prior owner's address label on the first free end page and an address correction in pencil. In a very good, unclipped dust jacket with small chips from the lower edges of the front panel, a 3/4 inch closed tear at the upper rear corner of the front panel at the fold to the spine area, shallow chipping at the upper edge of the spine area which is also faded. Based on the author's autobiography of the same name, first published by Dutton in1956. which, in turn, was the basis for 3 Hollywood films. This title is extremely scarce in this comic book form, in which it first appeared in the newspaper edition of the Sunday Pix (the "favorite Sunday comic for juniors & teenagers)." Zamperini (1917-2014) was a WWII Army Air Force bombardier who was captured & spent time in various Japanese POW camps, during which time he was purportedly forced to compete against Japanese runners due to the fact that, prior to enlisting, he had been a champion Olympic distance runner, setting a new lap record at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
