This book is in very good condition. There is no wear on the front, back, edges, and spine of the cover boards. The previous owner signed the inside front cover board. The pages are crisp, white, and free from any markings. Amsterdam: Jansson, J.. unbound. Map. Hand colored engraving. Image measures 15" x 19 1/4".<br/><br/> Detailed map of Prussia depicts parts of Poland and Lithuania and dates to circa 1636. It extends from the Baltic Sea south as far as Thorn and beautifully depicts forests and mountains in profile. Important cities and rivers are labeled. A beautifully engraved title cartouche adorns the top left corner and illustrations of ships in the Baltic Sea. The map is in good condition with minor wear along the centerfold with minor edge wear. Foxing at places.<br><br> Jan Jansson was part of an influential family of map publishers from the Netherlands throughout the 17th century and beyond. They were based in Arnhem then in Amsterdam. They were printers, publishers and booksellers. Major publications were under the joint ownership of the Jansson heirs and their printing empire. This is a beautiful example of his work.<br/><br/>

Text below details "On the morning of Tuesday, November 29th, the garrison of Paris, under the command of Generals Trochu, Ducrot and Vinoy, made their first sally... For three days the French held their positions and they nearly succeeded in breaking the German lines. But along the line of railroad they had to yield, and after a desperate fight were repulsed, losing about 4.000 men." An excellent example of the theatrics of war, this view shows moustached men falling histrionically to the ground, sans the gore an usual depiction of a battle scene might show. Possible proof print due to variation in dating.<br/><br/>
