Partially printed document, 10 ½ x 16 ½ inches, completed in manuscript, identifying 74 knapsacks, haversacks, and other items "to be dropped and destroyed" as "worthless." Signed by 2nd Lt. Warren (sp?) A. Sawyer as commanding Co. B., Capt. Lewis H. Carhart as inspector, and Maj. M. Hazen White as Asst. Inspector General. Created in May, 1863, the 60th was composed of Black soldiers commanded by white officers, primarily for garrison duty in Arkansas, but seeing action at Wallace's Ferry in July, 1864; the unit was mustered out of service in October, 1865. Folded to narrow 8vo; some light foxing, but very good.

The survey is signed by its creator Dan G. Farley (sp?), the document signed by North Carolina Secretary of State William Hill (1773-1857; N.C. Secretary of State, 1811-1857, state librarian, 1812-1827 and 1831-1842). Hawkins, a native of Vance county, was the nephew of Senator and Indian agent Benjamin Hawkins, serving under him in Georgia and performed his first official duties in his home state by settling a claim with the Tuscarora Indians in 1801. Folded (some light foxing). Very good.

The cargo listed consists of various amounts of five products: 193 bags of coffee, 10 demijohns of palm oil, 59 baskets of gin, 23 crates of merchandise, and 60 crates of cigars, all to be shipped to the United States on the "Bateau americain Good hope." The Republic of Haiti (for the entire island of Santo Domingo) was formed in 1820 under Jean-Pierre Boyer who ruled as President through 1843. Folded, but very good.
