Good Copy. Pages are clean and unmarked. Some shelf wear to outside cover. ...A corrosive critique of two opposed social classes still very much alive in Great Britain today; the play is a kind of parable on the seven deadly sins: gluttony, sexual greed, public school debauchery, cruelty in the hunt, fashion slavery, drunkeness and snobbery.

Description:
Good copy. Pages are clean and unmarked. Cover shows some shelf wear. Translated by John Mortimer. Raymonde suspects her husband, Victor Emmanuel, of infidelity and she turns to her best friend, Lucienne, to help her gain proof. They concoct a play-based on a perfumed letter-to trap him at the Hotel Coq d'Or in Montretout. In true Feydeau fashion the plan misfires, the plot is complicated by confused identities, revolving beds, a great many doors and the fact that the stupid hotel port, Poche, is the exact double of Victor Emmanuel. 5 women, 9 men.Period: the early 1900s.

Description:
Very Good Copy. Some slight marks and bends to outside cover, otherwise pristine pages. Barry thought enough of the play to have lines from it carved on his tombstone: "All things are turned to a roundness. Wherever there is an end, from it springs a beginning." Many critics regard "Hotel Universe" as Barry's best play. The two-hour piece is unusual in that Barry wrote it to be performed without an intermission. Written in 1929 while Barry was in Cannes, the play is set in a small seaside village in southern France.
