Description:
1st Edition.8vo, pictorial red cloth.

In nearly 200 wordless images the graphic story follows an unnamed woman whose life of poverty and misfortune drives her to infanticide, prostitution, and murder. Delphin-Verlag.

Destiny was the first graphic novel with leadcut images instead of the more common woodcuts used by artists such as Frans Masereel. The process allowed a greater depth of character and inspired Lynd Ward to tackle the medium, beginning with Gods' Man in 1929. Ward's success brought about this U.S. publication of Destiny in 1930. Literary scholars have praised the work for the complexity of its plot, its social consciousness, and its focus on an individual character. Destiny first appeared in German [SchicksalI] in 1926.
