Back board detached, gathers uneven, shaken. Several ownership inscriptions, some crossed-out, including one on the dedicatory frontispiece "Presented to the Croydon Workmen's Chess Club by Geo. W. Medley (Presdt.) 15 June 1866" the author of the Account.... In 1860, he lost a match to Ignatz Von Kolisch. Against Medley, Ignatz Von Kolisch sometimes took two hours for three moves. Buffalo, New York, 1901. 252, with numerous full page photographs of the principal cities of Chile and of the exhibits of mining, fish, furniture, machinery, locomotives, libraries etc. The book is presented in two halves, the first a description of Chile and its provinces and cities, the second a comprehensive list of all the exhibits. Included are photographs of the Chile Commissioners, a map of the exhibition site and the Chilean building at the Exposition. Almost contemporary rebinding in linen with red leather label with glt titles to spine, original soft card cover bound in. Boards stained, contents good, with some browning of edges. The book is inscribed on the title page by one of the Chilean Assistant Commissioners, Senores Don Carlos Cross to a recipient in Val;paraiso, Chile, possibly a relative, and signed C.Garcia Cross, Buffalo, N.Y.
