Good copy of these early well illustrated topographical accounts forming volume 5 of Britton and Brayley's Beauties of England and Wales series.

First edition thus, 8vo; iv, 250pp. In contemporary mid-eighteenth century full leather (lightly worn), five raised spine bands between gilt double fillets, gilt-lettered red leather spine label to second compartment, remaining compartments gilt stamped with circular motifs, lacks front free endpaper, leaves A2-A3 protruding slightly with consequent wear to fore-ege but still well bound in, marginal crease to lower corner of final leaf, overall a very good well margined copy of this finely printed volume. Octavo; 577pp. In ornate early nineteenth century prize binding (with only the very lightest of wear and unobtrusive light stains), gilt lettering to front board ("Market Bosworth School prize") set within gilt frame, five raised spine bands, gilt lettered red and black title and volume labels in second and fourth compartments respectively, remaining comparments gilt tooled, borard edges gilt, gilt inner dentelles, gilt frame to rear board, all page edges marbled, unmarked original marbled endpapers, early ink owenrship name to front blank, a clean and attractive odd volume example of this popular account in attractive prize binding.

First edition, octavo; xvi,232pp, with full complement of 34 engravings, 33 of which are folding. In contemporary unlettered full calf (a little worn with minor loss to board corners, sometime skilfully rebacked in matching leather), five raised spine bands, internally clean with only the lightest of occasional dust staining. Muller was deputy head of the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, where he was instrumental to its transformation into a disciplined cadet academy. An attractive first edition example of his first work. Laurence Sterne possessed the text in second edition, with possible influence on Uncle Toby and Corporal Trim's obsessions with fortification in The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy. Despite its tired condition, still a complete working copy of this early illustrated biography in first edition.
