Description:
Cleveland: The World Publishing Company, 1961. 1st Edition Assumed 2nd. Hardcover. Good +/Good. B&W illustrations by Alberto Beltran; color photos as well. CONDITION: UNREAD c. 1961 The World Publishing Company large hardcover (decorated boards) & dust jacket (in mylar cover), first edition, assumed 2nd printing. The book has problems, but IS unread and the interior is clean and tight. The problem is with the corners and edges of the boards (see or send for the scans) and with the dust jacket which has extreme edge wear top and bottom spine and at corners and is covered in mylar cover to prevent further erosion. I have done some small cosmetic work on the bottom edges of the boards, but it's strictly cosmetic and the corners are frayed. Questions encouraged and answered. CONTENT: "An exotic panorama - lavishly illustrated and pulsing with life - of the Aztec, Maya, and Inca civilizations. A major work of archaeology, anthropology, and history, by one of America's foremost archaeological…

Description:
New Jersey: Castle Books, 2004. New Edition Assumed 1st. Hardcover. New/New. B&W drawings - a few. CONDITION: NEW 2004 Castle Books hardcover (black boards) & dust jacket (in mylar cover), new edition (so they say), assumed first printing. Very few B&W drawings. There is a tiny foxed area top fore edge. CONTENT: Tracing the development of the civilizations of pre-Columbian America from village communities to prosperous city-states, this is a fascinating account of how these civilizations culminated in the magnificent empires of the Aztecs and Inca. This book was originally published in 1972 so there have been significant discoveries since publication; however, there is much merit in the text as is. IMHO.

New York: Dorset Press, 1989. New Edition 3rd Printing. Hardcover. New/New. Filled with B&W era photos, maps, plans. CONDITION: UNREAD 1989 Dorset Press hardcover (grey boards) & dust jacket, first edition Dorset, 3rd printing. Filled with B&W era photos, drawings, maps, plans. CONTENT: Drawing on the archaeological evidence and the written records from the period of the Spanish conquest, Kendall has painted an evocative and rounded picture of their daily routine and ritual occasions, including feasts, games, and sacrifices. She highlights the remarkable approach of the Inca emperors to town planning and describes the construction of their homes, palaces, temples and fortifications, and the organization of work forces for farming, building and fighting, as well as the education of children, the responsibility of adults and care of the aged. While this is an older book, the observations and research are still in good standing with modern findings.

CONDIITON: NEW 1997 Univ of Texas Press trade paperback, first edition, no printing given. B&W maps and photos illustrate. Some dePoma drawings. CONTENT: Surrounded by the peaks of the Andean cordillera, the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca have long provided refreshment and nourishment to the people who live along its shores. From prehistoric times, the Andean peoples have held Titicaca to be a sacred place, the source from which all life originated and the site where the divine manifests its presence. In this interdisciplinary study, Verónica Salles-Reese explores how Andean myths of cosmic and ethnic origins centered on Lake Titicaca evolved from pre-Inca times to the enthronement of the Virgin of Copaca-bana in 1583. She begins by describing the myths of the Kolla (pre-Inca) people and shows how their Inca conquerors attempted to establish legitimacy by reconciling…

CONDITION: NEW 2003 Bear & Co. trade paperback, first paperback edition, first printing. Loaded with B&W drawings, maps, and charts plus 2 color photo sections. CONTENT: Inca mythology tells of a tall, white leader who wandered along the coast performing miracles, a man they called Viracocha Pachamac, which means "God of the World." Centuries later another great miracle worker, similar to the first, appeared and wandered the countryside, healing the sick and restoring sight to the blind. He, too, was named Viracocha. These accounts have long baffled scholars, as have the carvings left by the people of Tiahuanaco who preserved these legends. Now Maurice Cotterell, who cracked the codes hidden in both ancient Maya carvings and the treasures of Tutankhamun, unlocks the secrets concealed within the treasure-filled tombs of Viracocha Pachamac and Viracocha. His…

CONDITION: As new (it has, I believe, been gently perused on shelf) 1999 Pavilion hardcover (pictorial boards) & dust jacket (in mylar cover), first edition, first printing. Ingpen's color illustrations are fantastic and in most cases historically correct. There are no problems with this book except a tiny bit of edge wear top DJ edge. Decorated end pages. CONTENT: Reviewer: "When two boys discover a box in their barn, the small bundle of papers within starts an intriguing story. Written in an ancient language that takes an archaeologist to decipher, The Poppykettle Papers recount the adventures of a tiny people called the Hairy Peruvians. It seems that the god El Ni-o breathed life into diminutive dolls and gave each one a special gift. This is the tale of five of them as they sail the ocean in a poppykettle, a vessel used to make poppy tea for the gods. At El Ni-o's instruction, the little people go…
