Description:
London: Vincent Brooks Day & Son, 1870. Beautiful coloured-lithographic panorama, as issued in its original decorated cloth boards: the series of 24 connected panels combine to illustrate Psalm 104, forming a continuous panorama over three-and-a-half metres in total. This copy is unusually fine; where seen, these fragile works more commonly display significant wear. The work has been featured in some detail online, testament to its visual impact (see for example a handsome commentary including a full reproduction at the Bridwell Library of Southern Methodist University in the USA). The panorama begins with an image of the psalmist, King David, covering his head in reverence to the Lord; at the end, he appears again, wearing a crown and playing his harp within his palace in Jerusalem. The remainder of the panorama consists of various landscapes teeming with life, as described in the psalm, and includes a scene showing the "leviathan" or whale. The panorama was designed by Susan Maria Ffarington…

Description:
London: The Studio, 1921. First Edition. Original gilt decorated papered boards with parchment backstrip. Very good. Notable for his skill in rendering architectural detail and moody Parisian scenes, "The Etchings of Charles Meryon" offers a diverse selection of the artist's work. Selected from the holdings of the British Museum by keeper of prints and drawings, Campbell Dodgson M.A., C.B.E.: '...But nothing I have said yet explains what there is in Meryon that makes him regard him as a great artist... It was the combination, in Meryon, of this high degree of mechanical skill with with a fine instinct for design and a poet's vision which was still more specially his prerogative that places him in a different category from a Lalanne, a Martial-Potémont or an Edwon Edwards. The old streets were not, for him, merely storehouses of picturesque motives, structures composed of walls and porticos, gables and spires, on which the sun arranged at day different patterns of light and shade; they were that,…

Description:
London: John Murray, 1834. A beautiful overlap of literature and travel description, being a tour through Mediterranean and Continental sites of interest in the life and tales of Lord Byron. Brief biographical descriptions are scattered throughout. Edward Francis Finden's masterful series of steel engravings from the works of J.M.W. Turner, William Westall and other leading landscape and portrait artists of the day capture the dreamy and romantic qualities of Byron's poetry. Scarce first edition. Three volumes, large octavo, contemporary half morocco with gilt panelled spines, marbled boards; engraved title page of one volume is frayed along the fore-edge, occasional mild foxing and offsetting, boards rubbed but a handsome near-fine set nonetheless.

London: Eragny Press, 1902. Pissaro, Lucien. With woodcut borders and initials by Lucien Pissaro and three wood-engravings by T. Sturge Moore. The Eragny Press was the private concern of Lucien Pissaro and his wife Esther, established with the assistance of Charles Shannon and Charles Ricketts of the Vale Press. Sturge Moore wrote on the books printed by Eragny: "If they are precious, honour them, be liberal for them. We must have fewer then; but those few shall be beautiful on the table, on the shelf, in the hand; while we muse on the meaning, the eye shall rest happily on the page where fair proportions have been sought and established between margin and text, between type and page." (Franklin 'The Private Presses' p. 98). Edition of 200 copies. Slim octavo, original decorated papered boards, spine ends show a little wear, bookplate, a very good copy.
