Material dated variously between the 1950s and the 2000s, although the balance is dated from the late 1950s and 1960s. Nearly 2 linear feet of material in all. Archive contains hundreds of pages of sheet music, with over 70 distinct compositions represented, dating between 1954 and 1972, many including parts for several instruments. Archive of eight vintage borderless photographs, three typescript essays, and a carbon typescript of the first essay and first page of the second, by photographer Jerry Bauer, circa 1967, with the photographs corresponding to the topics of the essays. Bauer was an American photographer best known for his photographic portraits of writers, with his portraits of Samuel Beckett being held in particularly high regard. Much of his work resides in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London. The first essay, "The American Underground: Mind Expansion, A Messiah, 'Love'," is an examination of Timothy Leary and the "League for Spiritual Discovery" (LSD), a communal organization carrying out studies in the religious use of psychedelic drugs, as well as the effects of LSD. Archive of photographs, newspaper clippings, and various ephemera belonging to a Kenny Aumont Brown (1943-2016), of Burlington, North Carolina, largely relating to automobiles and automobile accidents, 1963-1966. The archive, assembled by Brown when in his early twenties, documents his preoccupation with automobiles, automobile accidents, and racing, at a time when Brown was first employed as a tow truck driver for Cobb Motor Company, and later as part of a rescue unit (as seen in one of the newspaper clippings). In his later years, Brown would serve as an Alamance County Deputy Sheriff for 34 years. A copious and insightful vernacular documentation of the relationship of Southern culture and automobiles in the early to mid 1960s. New York: Andy Warhol Film, 1967. Vintage poster for the 1967 film. The film originally screened at the Hudson Theater in a 95-minute version, although this cut is considered lost. A 109-minute version would screen in 1968 as the first film shown at the New Andy Warhol Garrick Theater, renamed as such after Warhol recovered from being shot by Valerie Solanas. One of several sexploitation influenced films made by Warhol, an episodic story of a biker who has no bike, and is both eroticized by the camera and emasculated by various Warhol superstars throughout. 19 x 25 inches, rolled.
