A tell-all about the exploits of David "The Duke" Monteverde, a burglar who stole thousands of dollars of goods from Hollywood's elite during the 1930s and 1940s. Co-author Robert F. Slatzer was best known as a director and screenwriter for films such as "The Hellcats" (1968), "Bigfoot" (1970), and "Mule Feathers" (1978), and as the author of the biography "The Life and Curious Death of Marilyn Monroe" (1974). Warmly INSCRIBED by Van Vechten on the front endpaper of the first volume to noted screenwriter Anita Loos: "For Anita with admiration and love from Carl / Christmas, 1955 / New York." Loos' ownership stamp on the front endpaper of each volume. Loos, a prolific and highly regarded screenwriter, has only now begun to have her influence on film be fully recognized. She has over 150 screenplays to her name, including "Red Headed Woman" and "The Women," and is considered to have been the first staff script writer, hired by D.W. Griffith's Triangle Film Corporation. A lovely association copy between two creative minds. Both volumes have just a hint of toning to the red cloth at the extremities, else Fine in a Fine slipcase.

Proletarian through and through, "I'm Lucky At That" is part memoir of Lett's transient working life and part homespun, epigrammatical advice, written in his rough, conversational dialect.
