France: 79th Division, 1919. An archive of material from James M. Cain's estate, originally from his office, relating to the newspaper edited (and largely written) by James M. Cain, The Lorraine Cross, during his service with the 79th Division of the US Army of the Allied Expeditionary Force in World War I. Included are: James M. Cain's own copy of the final issue of The Lorraine Cross, published just prior to the division's soldiers return to the US at the end of the war. A typed letter signed from the division's commanding General Joseph E. Kuhn to Cain, praising him and the paper's staff for their efforts. An original broadside printed in red and blue: "Have You Subscribed to The Lorraine Cross?" printed in red and two shades of blue with a comic drawing of doughboys reading the paper. Princeton, NJ: The Princeton Film Center, 1948. Archive of 19 vintage photographs relating to the Princeton Film Center (PFC), including five photographs of the custom vehicles used by the studio for on-location shooting, twelve photographs of the studio interior, one photograph of the studio exterior, and one photograph of a scale model of the studio. Nine photographs with PFC stamps on the verso. The PFC was founded in 1941 in Princeton, New Jersey, by Texan-born filmmaker Gordon Knox. Focusing on documentary short and feature films, the studio was heavily active during World War II, when it produced a number of educational films for the US Armed Forces, state and federal government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private sector clients including Boeing. London: Warner-Pathe, 1966. Collection of 10 vintage British front-of-house cards from the UK release of the 1965 US film. Six stills are full-color, and four stills are black-and-white, with a studio stamp on the verso of one of the black-and-white stills. One of the most ambitious films about World War II made during the 1960s, but denounced by President Eisenhower due to its many inaccuracies. An epic story that details the events leading to the title confrontation, one of the bloodiest battles the US fought in WWII and one of the key turning points in the war. Filmed almost entirely in the Spanish desert. Set in France, shot on location in Spain. 8 x 10 inches. Six stills have small pieces of cello tape at the top and bottom edges, else Near Fine.

Laid in with the program is a smaller black-and-white bifold program, also produced for showings at Grauman's. During World War I, a wealthy, idle young man joins the US Army's Rainbow Division, and is sent to France to fight, where he befriends two working class men, is hardened by the horrors of war, and falls in love with a French woman. Notable for its realistic depiction of trench warfare, a predecessor to Lewis Milestone's epic antiwar film "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1930). Color program: 9 x 12 inches. Universal City: Universal International Pictures, 1962. Final Draft script for the 1963 film. Based on the 1961 novel by Leo Rosten. An Army doctor in charge of a neuropsychiatric ward at an Air Corps hospital in Arizona encounters a variety of tough, humorous, and touching cases. Rosten's novel took inspiration from the experiences of his wartime friend Ralph Greenson, a psychoanalytic doctor who was one of the first in his field to link post-traumatic stress disorder (although that terminology was not yet in use) with the ordeals of war. Nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Bobby Darin. Set and shot on location in Arizona.
