An important and scarce account of the matches played at the "Grand tournoi international" in Paris, 1867. Many of the players and organizers of the tournaments took part in the edition of this book. Our copy bears the ownership signature of Manuel Márquez Sterling. Amateur chess player and promoter, journalist and diplomat, he was a close friend of Capablanca and also the only latín american player to take part in the subsequent big Paris tournament (1900). While living in Mexico from 1890 to around 93, he wrote chess columns for newspapers in Mérida, Yucatán and published at least one treatise about the game. Condition: near very good, wear and rubbing to spine and boards, solid and square binding. Many page corners stained from page turns.
