This map is probably from Atlas Portatif, although the image differs slightly from Norwich's (Maps of Africa, 2nd ed., Map 90) in that the indication of Delahaye as th e engraver is not present on the map offered for sale here. This is a good map, but not the quality of the other, nearly identical, map also currently in my inventory. The Robert de Vaugondy family was prominent as cartographers during 18th century Enlightenment France. 15.5x19cm..

Details all known major tribtaries with village names. It comes from Petermann's "Geographische Mitteilungen". Petermann was a major figure in the 19th century explosion of thematic mapping (see Robinson: EARLY THEMATIC MAPPING...). He apprenticed with Steiler and later helped with the maps of Johnston's PHYSICAL ATLAS... (initially issued as a tribute to Berghaus). The map measures 17x21 inches (43x53cm). .
