Thank you for your interest in A Freethinker's Corner. I started this venture online in July of 2017, then opened our physical location a year later in Dover, New Hampshire. Due to unfortunate events starting in 2020, we had to close our store in the fall of 2021, and return to being an online only bookstore.
A Freethinker's Corner is an independent new and used bookstore... and a little more. As a freethinker myself, the name A Freethinker's Corner represents our core goal and philosophy; a place that provides a wide selection of books to encourage intellectual growth, foster reasoned opinions, and stimulate rational conversations and debate. Our motto, "think... act... and be outside the box" refers to being out of the 'social norms' box, allowing for physical, mental, and emotional growth; and the 'big retail' box by investing in local, independent people and businesses, helping our communities grow.
Born, raised, and living in New England, I am fond of what the people and places of New England have to offer. Knowing that local, independent businesses are important to the vitality of our towns, communities and their people, A Freethinker's Corner believes in "buy local, buy New England".

Avenue Victor Hugo Books specialize in first editions of the best in fiction, history, biography, poetry, drama, and essay. Our catalogue features careful, considered assessments of all of our stock. We are not flippers selling books by the pound. Instead, we try to limit our stock to books in a condition we'd be proud to place on our personal bookshelves.
For nearly 30 years, Avenue Victor Hugo Books was a fixture of Newbury Street in Boston's Back Bay, at one time holding over a quarter-million magazines and 150,000 used books. Awarded "Best Used Bookstore" multiple times by Boston Magazine, the store was a favorite of Boston-area authors and college students alike.
Since relocating to New Hampshire our shop has been featured on WBGH Boston News, WVCB's "Boston Chronicle," NHPR, and WMUR's "New Hampshire Chronicle." Avenue Victor Hugo has also recently been featured in "New Hampshire magazine," "The Boston Globe," UNH's "The New Hampshire," "The New Hampshire Union Leader," and "Foster's Daily Democrat."
Our store is open Fridays & Saturdays from 10am to 6pm in Lee, New Hampshire, less than 10 minutes from the University of New Hampshire.

Hedgehog's Whimsey Books was born in a random moment when I decided to become a used books seller. Beginning in 2001, I apprenticed myself with a longtime pro in the next town, hoping to learn her secrets. She encouraged my free help but was wary of sharing all those secrets. Nonetheless, she turned me loose when she felt I would not embarrass her; she was impressed, finding I actually knew something about books and authors and styles. I am still learning, and I am having a good time with the random avalanches of books to be recycled into good homes, one by one. Inventory has mounted: my mother downsized her 7,000-plus library, and we (my Geezer and I) went to library book sales, yard emporiums on weekends, estate dispersals, and added the books my kids left behind, wanting to stock their own shelves anew. Some folks simply tooled down our dirt road and left boxes on our porch. Myself? Well, I am also a photographer, journalist, curious stuff collector, avid reader, writer, editor, small-time publisher, and online pontificator. At Hedgehog Enterprises, I do "Words & Pictures by & for Folks with Prickly Backs, Soft Bellies, & Small Brains", established in 1991. Since I have the smallest brain (by unpopular vote), I am the Head Hedgehog. Do I specialize in particular genres? I thought I did, but my barn has lots of Geezer-built shelves, and we have many interests, so topics vary, as do book conditions and editions. I try to describe such, and sometimes have too much fun as I poke along. There is no charge for the therapy of browsing, folks, so find my sites and stay awhile. If a purchase results, know that the tax collector in Newport, New Hampshire, may get a pleasant surprise. Or, I may buy a few more apple cider donuts or sweet potatoes. No pressure.
