Description:
San Francisco: Chronicle Books, 1991. About fine. Quarto. Paper over boards. Later printing. All illustrations and mechanicals by the author. About fine in a near fine dust jacket whose only flaw is that it is price clipped. I suspect Sabine. The final line of this romantic, mysterious correspondence states, "These postcards and letters were found pinned to the ceiling of the otherwise empty studio of Griffin Moss. Griffin Moss is missing.

Edition limited to 1000 copies printed on handmade Riccardi paper; the copies were numbered yet this copy is unnumbered (writer's fatigue?). Neat ink name and date on front free endpaper, some little offsetting to endpapers, light sunning to edges, else internally about fine, without dust wrapper. This limited edition from the Riccardi Press Booklets series reprints forty-four of Barrett Browning's most beloved, and oft-quoted sonnets originally published in 1850. This particular copy belonged to the poet Franklin McDuffee, a 1921 graduate of Dartmouth College who wrote the verses for "Dartmouth Undying" and who won poetic renown when his Michelangelo took the Newdigate…

Description:
New York: Cheshire House, 1932. Quarto. Half calf and marbled boards. T.e.g., all others untrimmed. Wood engravings by Freda Bone. Introduction by Christopher Morley. No. 955 of twelve hundred numbered copies. Spine a shade sunned, bit of foxing to end sheets and edges, but a very good copy in a minimally rubbed slipcase with paper label. "... I have done nothing to make it easier for you to read. It cannot be made easy. Save for a few noble passages and some fine bawdy humor (when did a scene ever open on a more brilliantly daring couplet than the first lines of Act Two?) the piece will seem obscure bombast except to connoisseurs. To them it is priceless because it is a flawed pearl in the great necklace worn by the Muse of English Tragedy." -- Christopher Morley. .

Berkeley: University of California Press, 1999. First edition. Octavo. Cloth and boards. First edition. 339,[1] pp. Six black & white plate illustrations. Translated from the Italian by Laura Gibbs. Author's preface, translator's preface, notes, works cited, index. Fine, in a fine pictorial dust jacket. "'Take an abandoned lover, put a portrait in his hands, and then a story slowly but surely begins to explore the situation.' All the tales presented by Maurizio Bettini in this zestful study concern lovers' separations, with a twist: one of the lonely partners retains an image -- a statue, a portrait -- of the other, and this image becomes the focus of the resulting story about separation and loneliness." -- from the Publisher.

London: Chatto & Windus, 1922. Bright green loth, paper spine label. Frontis, five plates. With the bookplate of collector/bibliographer Richard Little Purdy. Label darkened, else a near fine copy, lacking the jacket. A must for Bloomsbury collectors. First edition. Dedicated to his friend John Maynard Keynes, Strachey presents his biographical portraits of French and English literary greats culled from his earlier essays, but with a twist. All of these essays were extensively rewritten from their original appearances as Strachey was ever critical of his earlier works, as if "Lytton Strachey" was a land he didn't care to revisit. In this publication he writes of Racine, Sir Thomas Browne, Shakespeare's Final Period, The Lives of Poets, Madame du Deffand, Voltaire, Rosseau, Blake, and others.

[New York: Thames and Hudson, 1982. First US edition. Olive green cloth, gilt spine and publisher's device on upper panel. 124 illustrations, 20 in color. Photographs by Howard Grey. Foreword by John Lehmann. Collector's bookplate on front pastedown; fine in equally fine dust jacket. This book brings to life all that was the milieu of Bloomsbury, a gorgeous addition to the library of a Bloomsbury collector. The Omega Workshops were started in London in 1913 by the art critic Roger Fry, and their aim was to produce painted furniture, fabrics, rugs, pottery and other items in the spirit of the Post-Impressionists. Despite the combined talents of Vanessa Bell, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Mark Gertler, Dora Carrington, and others, they were not a commercial success and closed in 1919.
