A clean and bright copy in a fine early twentieth century leather binding.

Previous owners neat name on the front free endpaper otherwise a fine and bright copy of this pretty book.

There is just a hint of fading to the spine but overall a fine copy both inside and out.

Original racing circuit map endpapers (showing the courses for Monaco, Indianapolis, Comminges, Pescara, Monza, Tripoli, Brooklands, Mille Miglia, Le Mans, Douglas, Tourist Tropht, Linas-Montlhery and Reims) bound in at the front and the original publishers black cloth front board bound in at the rear. A fine copy.

Dean's Rag Book Co.,Pre WW1. 220mm wide x 135mm.Colour pictures of early aeroplanes, airships and trains printed on cotton cloth, 6 leaves. Edges a little frayed. Has the inevitable discolouration, and a few stains, but the colours are still bright. On rear leaf there is a motif of two bulldogs trying to tear the book apart, with logo "Dean's Rag Books. Quite Indestructible". Despite its blemishes, very true. An unusual item.:

Illustrated with 2 full page sepia aquatints, 12 line maps and 5 fine woodcut vignettes within the text. A very good copy in contemporary half brown calf. Spine with gilt thick and thin ruled and piped lines and oval centre pieces. Red morocco label, gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Edges a bit rubbed and bumped and small amount of chipping to the edges of the label, not affecting the lettering, but generally a very good copy.

J. Ottmann Litho. Co. New York. No date. Circa 1907. Die-cut Chromolithographic Bear and clothing in original printed envelope. (Bear is 10.5 inches tall, envelope is 11.5 x 8.5 inches). The Bear has a (recently replaced) plain card back stand to keep him upright and the 5 outfits have tabs so can be laid onto the body. The hats have small slits and sit on the head, in between the ears. Each outfit comes with a hat but the Driver's cap is missing. The outfits are; a Dress Suit with vests, tie, pocket square and top hat; a Nautical Suit of blue blazer with gold buttons, stripes, anchors, and white trousers with a cap featuring an eagle; a Baseball Uniform for the NL, National League, with a striped cap; a yellow Bathrobe trimmed in red, striped socks, and a red sleeping cap; and a Driver's Coat with brass buttons, belt, and grey gloves (the cap is missing from this outfit). Reprint of the original 1894 edition. 66 fine line illustrations by Beardsley, 25 new designs for this edition and 41 reprinted from earlier volumes issued in the Bon-Mots series. A few light spots to some of the pages but generally a very good copy in a fine early 20th century leather binding, possibly executed in 1922, of full burgundy crushed morocco. Both boards and spine with elaborate gilt decoration. Spine also lettered in gilt. Plain grey endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. All edges gilt. A neat pencil note inside the rear cover might be a clue to the binder and date of the binding; 'MMXXI. A. EE.'. A couple of tiny holes to the bottom ninge but overall this is a very good and highly attractive binding. --- Lasner. Checklist of the published work of Aubrey Beardsley. Compartments ruled, lettered and fully decorated in gilt, including the Harrow crossed arrows symbol in two compartments. Brown cloth on boards. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Overall a fine, beautifully bound, copy.

Collins. London. 1945. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (8.1 x 5.7 inches). Illustrated with 11 mono photos and 7 maps. Neat contemporary previous owner inscription on front free endpaper (Lord Milne from Col. Collins. 1945). Overall a very good copy in very good original dustwrapper with some minor rubbing to the edges but generally clean and bright. Overall very good indeed.

Cambridge University Press. 1900. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (8.9 x 6 inches). Neat previous owner name to the top of the front blank free endpaper and a neat 4 line inscription on the verso of the same leaf. Some sporadic foxing throughout and a few pages with neat pencil underlining (which could be easily erased if desired) otherwise a very good copy in publishers dark blue cloth with the spine lettered in gilt. Boards with single blind ruled border lines. Spine has a few small white marks to the cloth and the book is a bit rubbed and bumped to the edges but Overall this is a very good copy of Russell's third book. Only 1500 copies were published.

George Allen and Unwin Ltd. London. 1946. FIRST U. K EDITION. 8vo.(8.8 x 5.9 inches). 916pp. A clean copy bound in original publishers oatmeal cloth with brown and yellow stamped lettering panels to the spine. Cloth a little marked but generally the book is in very good condition throughout. In the original dustwrapper with some minor chipping to the top and bottom of the spine. Rear panel is marked and rubbed, but overall very good. ------- A nice copy of Russell's hugely popular history, broadly covering covering philosophers and philosophical thought from the Pre-Socratics up to John Dewey and William James, and finishing with Logical Analysis. Russell won the Nobel prize for Literature in 1950, with the Nobel committee listing this title among the works that influenced their decision. While criticised by some as being too general, many found the book an accessible and easily readable introduction to Philosophy and it became a best seller which has not been out of print since.

Boards with elaborate decorative gilt borders. Board edges and turn-ins with decorative gilt roll. All edges gilt. A lovely copy in a beautiful early nineteenth century binding.

Hodder & Stoughton, Limited. London. 1957. 8vo. Bright, clean copy finely bound in mid twentieth century full red morocco leather binding by Morrell. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt piping. Spine compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Ronald Knox's Monsignor coat of arms with the motto "Lux in Tenebris Lucet" (Light shines in the darkness) stamped in gilt to the centre of the front board. Single gilt ruled border on all the boards. All edges gilt. Double ruled border on the turn-ins. Marbled endpapers. A little darkening to the spine but overall a fine and beautiful presentation of this translation. --- A controversial figure, Knox converted from Anglicanism to Catholicism in 1917. His major work was this translation of the Saint Jerome Latin Vulgate bible which he started in 1936. The translation was finally published, including the New Testament in a single volume, in 1949.

A fine copy in a beautiful designer binding by The Ashley Bindery, of Somerset. Stamped to the rear inner board- 19 AB 81. Full black morocco with multi colour design of two boxed lines in brown morocco across both boards and the spine, with tan, green and red design within each box. The spine is also lettered in gilt. Wood effect endpapers. All edges gilt. Housed in a felt lines chemise with the same wood effect paper on the boards and a black morocco spine, lettered in gilt and with one of the red designs onlaid between the title and authors. Finely bound, by Riviere and Son, in beautiful early full dark green morocco, extra gilt. The spine with raised bands, dotted in gilt. Compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt, including floral centre pieces. Elaborate floral centre design to boards with gilt tooling over beige leather onlays. Inner Dentelles with ruled and dotted border lines and decorated flowers in the corners, all in gilt surrounding green Moire silk centre pieces. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. A couple of small dents to the spine and corners. Some creasing to the very edges of one of the blank paper endpapers but otherwise the pages are clean and bright throughout and this is a beautiful copy.

Boards with triple gilt ruled borders to the very edges and elaborate dark brown morocco panels with highly decorative gilt tooling. A thin blue ink line inside and out of the brown panels.
