Faint light stain to front cover. Foxing from front endpaper through vii, then the occasional scattered foxing throughout. See photos. Foxing on rear endpaper. Bottom quarter of spine vellum separated, repaired.

ATLAS OF THE CRUSADES translated by Ivan Grigoryevich Butovsky, published in 1823 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Full green morocco leather boards gilt stamped with the Imperial Romanov eagle on both front and back cover. Gilt tooled spine, gilt tooled and blind stamped borders. Front pastedown bears a paper label from the Pavlovsk Palace Library. This is a slim volume of only eight pages - title page plus seven maps. All edges gilt. Each of the eight pages bear an embossed device with the letters P and M, signifying Grand Duke Paul & Grand Duchess Maria. The seven map plates are: Asia Minor Plan of Antioch Plan of Jerusalem Christian Dominions in Asia Plan of Alexandria Plan of Constantinople Egypt Size: 10" tall, 13.5" wide. Condition is near fine. No Binding. As New. Between 1897 and 1913, Charles Paul Gruppé (1860-1940) lived in the Netherlands, where he painted with the Hague School of art and acted as a dealer for Dutch painters in the US. He, his wife Helen and their children returned permanently to America in 1913 ahead of World War I. All their children were active in the arts; Paulo as a cellist, Karl as a sculptor, Virginia in watercolors, and Emile Albert Gruppé. Please view the photographs. CONDITION: Excellent. DIMENSIONS: Frame 36 inches high x 32 inches wide x 3 1/2 inches deep.
