FIRST ENGLISH EDITION 1953, small 4to, 280 x 210 mm, 11 x 8¼ inches, cloth backed colour illustrated red boards with large round cut-out window on upper board, tiny cut-out hole on lower board, 24 pages. The hole in the upper board is designed to look as if a box lid had been opened. Delightful coloured illustration to every page, text inset. Some pages have cut-out portions for viewing the next scene. No inscriptions, tiny fray and tiny chip to cloth at head and tail of spine, covers a touch dusty, showing faintly on the title page due to the cut-out on the cover, 1 or 2 slight stains to covers and very slight wear to edges, faint damp stain to fore-edge margins of pages, showing mainly on uncoloured pages (see images), minute brown stain at top edge of 2 pages, no tears to page cut-outs. In a large cream mount. A Fine example, UNSIGNED. The story is written and illustrated by Jaques, and is the second about brave doll Tilly. Our image appears on page (24). Sold with a very good clean copy of the first edition which is inscribed in ink by Jaques on the front endpaper: "For Sue & Douglas with best wishes from Faith, October 1983". The only flaws to the book are that the laminate on the covers is slightly wrinkled and Jaques' name completely faded from spine. Price includes VAT. Enchanting black and white illustrations, many full page, by Garth Williams. Lovely story for young children. The Gingerbread rabbit baked for a little girl's treat, runs away, narrowly escapes the fox and is adopted by some nice bunnies. Mother makes a substitute soft toy rabbit for her little daughter.
