Description:
California 2016. Linda Jacobsons paintings represent a pure form of mysticism found in nature. They arise from her conviction that the world is a beneficent place. Even when the earth seems neutral or indifferent, it nevertheless contains a positive force for healing and growth. Jacobsons paintings are landscapes yet they are abstract. This is her way of revealing that natures true character is absract. It is to be found in the force that permeates all things, imbuing life wth an elemental vitality. As a painter she rejects descriptive precision, favoring large movements and patterns to literal description. Her visual vocabulary alludes to Art Nouveau. As in this late 19th century art movement, Jacobson sees the world as animated by an organic force. Her curving, enfolded compositions resemble the lines of psychic energy that permeate fin-de-siecle Symbolism. The ancient Chinese believed that a successful landscape invited the veiwer to take an imaginary journey into the painting. In a similar…

Sweden 2002. Over a period of twenty years Cilla Jahn has been responsible for the artistic decoration of hundreds of different places around Stockholm. Originally she had a position as artistic adviser to one of the major housing companies and later she set up her own consultancy. This book describes meeting with some sixty of the artists that Jahn has worked with over the years in connection with new buildings or with major conversion schemes. She describes visits to studios and building sites and she tells us about the many vicissitudes encountered along the way. The artists span a wide range of styles, techniques and materials. Some of the projects are large and complex, requiring many years of work and involving numerous artists and then there are contrasting small-scale projects concentrating around a single artist. One gains an insight into the very different conditions under which artists can work. Some artists featured -Torsten Bergmark, Karin Björquist-Lindkvist, Peter Dahl, Herthan…

Description:
Denmark 1982. Rørbye (1803-48) was the only Danish painter of the Golden Age who ventured to travel beyond Italy. The painting in Aarhus, dated 1846, is based on drawings and watercolours made on location in Greece and Turkey and on two oil-sketches from Italy. During his stay in Istanbul from December 20,1835 to February 1, 1836, he succeeded in making numerous sketches, but none in oil. The rich light and splendid colouring therefore must be the artists own contribution to the composition. His essay views the monuments of Istanbul as gigantic, romantic ruins of Constantinople., Danish/English Summary, Year1982, Illust. B/W32, Illust. Color1, ISBN 8798105752, Code 5662.
