A few pages at the front of the text affected by light foxing but overall a very good clean copy in a fine early leather binding by Austin & Sons Ltd, with their ticket pasted inside back cover. Full red calf, lavish gilt decoration to spine, leather title label in gilt, both boards with gilt ruling/ board edges and inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers, silk head and tailbands. College emblem to front board, in gilt. Marbled block edges. College prize label inside front cover. A lovely presentation of this interesting book.

Gerald Howe Ltd. London. 1934. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (7.6 x 5.2 inches). 27 line illustrations by Mary Shepard. One small, faint mark to the title page otherwise a near fine copy which is bright and clean throughout. Publishers yellow cloth with black lettering to the spine and front board, which also has an illustration of Mary Poppins. Illustrated endpapers. In the original illustrated grey dustwrapper which is split in two but is currently held together in a removable wrapper protector. There is some loss to the top and bottom of the spine and a large closed tear to the front panel with a small amount of loss. Small and neat booksellers label (Zeitlin Books of Los Angeles) to the rear pastedown endpaper. Overall a near fine book, with a little bumping to the top of the spine, in a good example of the scarce dustwrapper that is quite clean and more then 95% complete, so could easily be restored to it's former glory. Longmans, Green and Co. London. 1889. FIRST EDITION, first impression. 8vo. (7.3 x 5.1 inches). viii, 390pp, 16pp publishers adverts at end dated August 1889. Illustrated with 8 full page mono plates and scores of smaller illustrations throughout the text by Ford, G. P. Jacomb-Hood and Lancelot Speed. Publishers decorated dark blue cloth binding with gilt illustration to the front board and spine, which is also lettered in gilt. The book has been professionally re-cased and has new plain white endpapers. All edges gilt. Some marks and spots to a few pages but overall this is a very good copy internally with the binding showing some wear and minor chipping to the extremities, particularly the top of the spine. Overall a near to very good copy of the first of Lang's colour Fairy books.

A superior copy of the fourth of Lang's colour Fairy books.

All pages with a printed red ruled border. Original brown pebble grained cloth on bevelled edges boards with gilt lettering to the front cover and spine. Blind stamped rule and decorative corner borders on both boards. Original dark brown coated endpapers. A crease to the front free endpaper and one page bumped to the outer corner of one mount page, not affecting the image, otherwise a better than very good example of this uncommon catalogue. The covers are bright and clean. Contains a history of the firm up to 1871

Board edges with single gilt ruled lines. Turn-ins decorated with triple ruled lines, dots and floral devices, all in gilt. Plain green endpapers. All edges gilt. A lovely copy of this 19th century poem in a fine, highly attractive, but sadly unsigned by the binder, leather binding. Lorne was a Liberal politician, son in law of Queen Victoria, through his marriage to Princess Louise, and in 1878 was appointed Governor General of Canada by Disraeli.
